When The Diagnosis Breaks You Open with Erin Trier

This week I sat down with the wise and wonderful Erin Trier, and—wow. We covered a lot. From the years of medical mystery surrounding her son’s health, to the eventual diagnosis of Tuberous Sclerosis Complex, to the very real emotional toll that comes with parenting in the unknown.

One of my favorite things Erin said was, “This is not a typical load. It’s okay if it feels like too much—because it is.” That line landed hard. Because yes, so many of us are carrying more than what’s visible. More appointments, more unknowns, more mental weight.

What I loved about this conversation was that Erin doesn’t just share the hard parts—she also brings a grounded, real-life view on wellness, therapy, imperfect sleep, and why doing something is always better than nothing. (She even made me laugh out loud talking about her love for mayonnaise in a health analogy—don’t worry, it makes sense when you hear it.)

We also talked about:

  • Why the all-or-nothing mindset keeps us stuck
  • How therapy and community became key parts of Erin’s survival
  • Small, doable ways to care for ourselves—even when everything feels heavy

If you’ve ever felt like you’re falling short for not doing it all, this one’s for you. Listen to the episode here:
