Discovering the Power of Authentic Connection with Tara Heaton

I’m thrilled to share this week’s podcast episode with you! I had the chance to sit down with Tara Heaton, a storyteller, writer, and a mom who’s navigating the journey of raising a child with special needs. Tara’s perspective on finding joy, even in the hardest moments, really struck a chord with me.

Tara’s story is one of resilience and transformation. After her daughter, Caroline, developed a seizure disorder, Tara had to adjust to a completely new reality. But instead of getting stuck in the struggle, Tara learned to shift her focus from constantly seeking fleeting pleasures to embracing true joy—something that’s rooted in the everyday moments.

Tara shared how, over time, she stopped chasing those quick fixes of dopamine (hello, social media scrolling and wine!) and started looking for joy in the simple things, like meaningful conversations with friends or a peaceful walk in nature. I loved how Tara described joy as something sustainable, rather than something we need to find or force.

We also talked about her book, Life Minutes: Igniting Joy from the Fire of Heartache, where she dives even deeper into her journey and offers a powerful perspective on embracing both the sorrow and the joy that life has to offer.

Take a listen to the full episode and get ready to be inspired! Tara’s insights on relationships, joy, and living with intention are ones I’ll be reflecting on for a long time.

see you in the episode,

Kara
