Self-Care That Doesn’t Suck

004- In this episode, I take a more realistic look at what self-care is and how it can be just what you’re missing.

Before you run away, I want to make this easier for you. It’s not about checking off a box, but genuinely making a point to build a caring relationship with ourselves!  It’s not optional, I think this is essential. It’s essential so you can keep giving to your children.

I challenge you to look at self-care differently. Yes, you have a lot of things you truly have to do in your life, but you’re using those things against you, rather than for you. You are so amazing at taking care of your children, you can totally be that amazing when taking care of yourself.

You are worthy. You are a human being. You are valuable and you deserve this.

Here are three things I think are important steps to re-evaluate how you see self-care and to actually start letting it happen.

1. Curiosity. It starts with questioning yourself and the thoughts that run through your mind when it feels hard, you don’t want to, when you believe it won’t matter anyhow…  You’ll have a lot of thoughts about how things should be or how it should go. Write down your thoughts. Getting it out on paper helps you look at it more objectively. Can you come at it from a different angle?

2. Kindness.  Self compassion. What would be the most loving thing i could say for myself? Do for myself?

3. Permission to practice. Try something and evaluate if it was helpful? It doesn’t have to look perfect. How can I love myself in a whole new way right now?

I have more on this in a resource I created. Its a guide to self-care for the special needs mom. Check it out here.
