Nine Moms, One Book, Infinite Courage

Okay, I’ll be honest—I did not plan on writing another book chapter this year. But when a friend reached out with an opportunity to join a group of special needs moms contributing to a new collaborative book, The Courage to Raise, I surprised myself and said yes.

The only problem? I had no idea what I’d write about. Classic.

Eventually, I came back to a tool I created years ago during one of those seasons that felt… impossible. I called it Tolerating the Intolerable—a sort of mental game plan for when life throws you into situations that leave you thinking, “Is this really happening?” (Spoiler: the chapter starts with officers in my living room.)

In this week’s podcast episode, I’m pulling back the curtain on how this chapter came to be, why I wrote it, and what it means to find lightness—even humor—amid the chaos. Oh, and I share a few “plays” from my original draft that didn’t make it into the final chapter, like Skedaddle and High Ground. Because if we’re going to survive the mess, we might as well have a little fun naming it.
